Description

If you enjoy fishing, you will love Jasmin Lodge – a cosy wooden chalet located on the edge of the stunning Hartland forest. Sleeping six people and two dogs, this property comes with the chance to go fishing free of charge in two well-stocked course fishing lakes on site (a General Fishing Permit is required). And for those who would prefer something other than fishing to while away the hours, the nearby Penstowe Park has an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, tennis, badminton and squash courts (charges apply).

The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner has two floor to ceiling patio doors overlooking the garden and surrounding countryside, comfortable seating and a well-equipped kitchen. The patio doors open out onto a decked veranda and a gravelled patio. Jasmine Lodge has three bedrooms – one of which has an en-suite bathroom – and a family shower room.

Nearby is the 13,000 acre Hartland Peninsula, one of the largest royal manors in the Saxon times of King Alfred. A walk from Hartland Quay to Hartland Point is a great introduction to the peninsula. Come rain or shine, this is a magnificent jaunt, which starts at the pretty quay close to ancient Hartland Abbey. The route then takes you along a three-mile switchback to the lighthouse at Hartland Point. It’s strenuous up-and-down walking but the views more than compensate, with glimpses of Lundy Island. The lodge is very close to both Clovelly and Bucks Mill. In Clovelly, follow the street as it descends through solid rock to a tiny harbour and lifeboat station, both protected by an ancient stone breakwater. In bygone days goods were carried up the steep main street and alleys by donkeys, but today these famous residents give rides to children and pose for photographs while, for a small fee, a Land Rover service ferries visitors up and down the steep hill via a back road.
