This has to be as close as you can get to spending your holiday in a National Trust manor house. The truly spectacular formal and informal gardens shared with the owner, who lives close by, have to be seen to be believed. Little Wick sits alongside the owner's own listed property and has been lovingly restored to a high standard.

The cottage is located in the pretty hamlet of Week, on the edge of the Taw Valley and makes the perfect holiday base for small families or couples looking to explore North Devon. Simple white walls blend with exposed stone and beams with traditional timber latch doors along with many other original features. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner looks out to the expansive gardens and an open tread staircase leads up to the stylish bedrooms and family bathroom. The two acres of gardens are simply stunning and the owner welcomes guests to wander freely through the wonderful avenues, paths, woodland and lawns. There are two ponds, one low down and a second raised to show off a fountain, while painstakingly sculpted box trees wrap neatly around seating areas. The owner is a ceramic artist whose work can be seen at Broomhill Sculpture Gardens near Muddiford and Echo Beach Gallery in Ilfracombe.  There are also examples of her work in the woodland area of the garden.

A lawned section is ideal for children and there are more peaceful areas for those wanting to relax or read. The setting offers seclusion but is still a short drive from the historic town of Barnstaple and just a little further to North Devon's spectacular coastline, and many attractions including RHS Rosemoor. Barnstaple is the commericial and agricultural centre of North Devon. It is a charming place that comfortably blends a handsome past with an energetic, present-day buzz. It is the shopping hub of the region, with a mix of cutting-edge retail outlets, long-established family owned stores and little boutiques as well as the pannier market, which hosts local food producers

Mr Nick J,

This holiday property was the best I've ever experienced, the gardens was fantastic, the best grounds I've ever seen and my dog was in Dog Heaven, he had the best time ever and we all felt completely spoilt.
