Description

This characterful cottage in the centre of the small village of Westleigh between Barnstaple and Bideford, is a delight to stay in. With beamed ceilings, a multi-fuel burner set in a stone fireplace, wooden lintels and a sheltered patio, Chestnut Cottage has everything a group of four will need for a great North Devon holiday. Stone steps lead up from the rear of the property into a light and bright kitchen/diner which enjoys views out onto the patio. The kitchen is well-equipped and being just through a small arch from the dining area, provides a sociable area for the whole party. The cosy living room is ideal for relaxing in with comfortable seating, beamed ceilings and a large multi-fuel burner set in a stone fire surround. There is a snug/study area and separate sunroom which is light and bright and has doors leading out onto a paved patio area complete with table and chairs. Upstairs, both bedrooms have king-size beds and enjoy views over the village and surrounding countryside. One also has a single bed for alternative sleeping arrangements and an en-suite shower room, whilst the other has a pretty cushioned window seat from which to enjoy views over the patio and the village. The second bedroom has use of the large bathroom which includes a shower over the bath. Outside, as well as the paved patio, there is a further large decked area providing a sheltered and secluded setting from which to enjoy countryside views towards the Torridge Estuary.

Chestnut Cottage is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the Westleigh Inn serving good local food. It is also a short drive from the market towns of Barnstaple and Bideford – both of which have a wide variety of restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops.  Tapeley Park gardens and tea rooms are open to the public 6 days a week and can be found a few minutes away by car.  If you are looking to enjoy a day at the seaside then the estuary beach at Instow is not far and is popular with water sport enthusiasts as well as families with children.  A choice of family friendly pubs and restaurants are available opposite the beach.  During the summer a small ferry is available for the 10 minute trip across the estuary to the popular fishing village of Appledore.

Reviews

We loved the village and the cottage was just great!

Mr Paul S,

A delightful cottage with a lovely sunny terrace. Extra touches in the cottage made it very homely. Really appreciated the tea tray as we had not packed tea! Neighbours and villagers all very friendly and the Westleigh Arms was a real find, food excellent.

Frances H,

Nice cottage with terrace, all equipment needed in the kitchen, 2 bathrooms. Quiet village with a good pub.
