Description
Flora Cottage is a modern property overlooking the sand dunes and water at Instow.
Sleeping four people, it’s situated in a quiet cul-de-sac not far from the waterfront and has a lovely paved patio at the front. The lounge has a large window to the front, plenty of comfortable seating and an archway leading through into the modern kitchen/diner. An open staircase leads up to the first floor which has a double bedroom, a second bedroom with 3ft single bed and additional 3ft single pullout bed (strictly by arrangement) to provide a compact twin room and a shower room. Flora Cottage is just a couple of minutes’ walk to the centre of Instow which lies within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Instow enjoys pretty views across the estuary and a walk along the front takes you past the beachfront cricket ground with its magnificent thatched pavilion, one of the oldest in the country. The big event of the year is Appledore and Instow Regatta. First held in 1885, it is a relaxed but competitive event that promotes old traditions of boat-building, while hosting lots of nautical fun and excitement. The Tarka Trail is one of the country’s longest traffic-free paths for walkers and cyclists and Instow is right on it. It follows the route of the old Southern Railway track which halted at Instow Station, linking the village with Waterloo Station in London. A short boat trip over the water takes you to Appledore which has a small range of pubs, shops and galleries. Historically celebrated for its artists and craftspeople the village now boasts an arts festival and the Appledore Crafts Company, an artist’s co-operative showcasing a broad range of arts and crafts from ceramics and photography to jewellery and painting. There are pleasant walks along the sunny, south-facing quay and along the river towards Bideford and Westward Ho! The surfing havens of Westward Ho! and Croyde, the bathing beaches of Saunton and Woolacombe and the famous RHS Garden Rosemoor are a short drive away.
