Instow is a picturesque village positioned on the estuary where the North Devon rivers Taw and Torridge meet and a great location to spend a North Devon holiday any time of year.
Instow has a river beach perfect for enjoying a picnic on or playing a round of beach cricket. The beach is backed by rolling sand dunes which are home to some very rare Orchid species including the pyramid orchid.
There’s also a good selection of great bars and restaurants serving excellent food and local ales with amazing views across to the pretty fishing village of Appledore. Find yourself a table on an outdoor terrace and watch the world go by whilst you enjoy a glass of chilled white wine.
The traffic free ‘Tarka Trail’ passes through the village making it easy to explore the surrounding countryside either by bike or on foot. Named after the classic novel, Tarka the Otter by Henry Williamson, this section of the Trail is also part of the South West Coast Path which opens up miles and miles of glorious (and challenging) coastal walks.
