Description

Summercombe is a stunning Grade 2 listed, detached barn conversion cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside yet less than 3 miles from the spectacular North Devon coastline in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The property nestles into the hillside and offers far reaching country and sea views from the grounds. This pet friendly property has a field for you to exercise your dog and there are footpaths leading directly from the grounds that offer exhilarating walks towards the small cove beach of Hele that is pet friendly all year round.

The town of Ilfracombe is just a short drive away with its spectacular coastal scenery, picturesque harbour and intriguing  statue of Verity. Ilfracombe offers plenty to do including boat trips to Lundy Island, seal spotting, fishing trips, wandering around the many arts and craft galleries and a good choice of cafes and restaurants including a Michelin star restaurant.  Ilfracombe also has Tennis Courts available at Bicclescombe Park which is ideal for children as well.

The pretty village of Berrynarbor is  just over 2 miles away whilst the magnificent sandy, surfing beaches of Woolacombe Bay and the splendour of the Exmoor National Park are both only a 20 minute drive.

The accommodation has been architecturally designed throughout to provide a spacious and stylish living space on the first floor and two bedrooms each with ensuites on the ground floor.  The thoughtful design includes traditional features as well as attractive contemporary style. The main door opens into a spacious entrance hall with slate flooring and underfloor heating with two bedrooms off. An oak and metal tread staircase leads up to the main rooms with its vaulted ceiling, glass balustrade and oak beamed ceilings which are flooded with light from the large skylights throughout.  The woodburner in the sitting area provides extra warmth when you want to hunker down on a cooler evening to relax after a day out exploring this diverse area of Devon.

Bedroom 1: Superking size bed, 3 steps down en-suite bathroom with roll top bath, separate shower, washbasin and WC.

Bedroom 2: Twin beds with zip n link option by request to Superking size bed, en-suite shower room with washbasin and WC.

Laundry area: washing machine and tumble dryer.

First Floor:

Kitchen (Open plan): Electric oven and induction hob, integrated dishwasher, fridge, separate freezer and microwave. 

Lounge (open plan): Smart TV.  Bluetooth sound bar. Wood burner, starter supply of kindling and logs supplied.

Pets: 1 dog welcome, please keep on a lead at all times when outside the property due to livestock in surrounding fields.

Parking: Private parking for 2 cars(more space available on request).  Electric car charging point.

Garden: Patio area with garden furniture and barbecue, also small lawn area and access to the Pretty Meadow and a dog walking field.  Undercover storage for bikes and surfboards.

Heating: Air source underfloor heating throughout.

Short breaks: Available all year round (but for specific dates only bookable within 2-8 weeks of the holiday start date)

Notes: Linen and towels are provided (please bring beach towels). Unlimited Wi-Fi is available free of charge. No smoking at this property. High-chair Snuzpod, cot bed are provided by prior arrangement.  Use of grounds and dog walking field, please note there is a stream within the grounds, care should be taken with small children.

The cottage is beautiful and had everything we needed and more. The bath was a god-send after a full day of walking. Lovely fresh eggs for breakfast. We tried axe throwing at Key Pitts, down the road, it was harder than we thought. We walked the coastal path from Ilfracombe to Lee Bay and the coastline was lovely along the way. Everything was spotlessly clean on arrival which was really reassuring given the current situation.

We've had such a gorgeous stay at Summercombe. Three of us on three sofas - great ingredients for relaxation. The weather wasn't fabulous it must be said, but it was actually perfect for walking and we took full advantage of that. Valley of the Rocks was really stunning and the contorted oaks on the track between Countisbury and Watersmeet were beautiful. Thanks for the treats - delicious. Getting away has never felt so good, after weeks and months at home. A wonderful place to make a base in North Devon, you have chosen well if you're reading this! Stunning walks - recommend Baggy Point for a leisurely two hour loop - fantastic views (don't go on a windy day!) or a for a more strenuous climb - Hele - Mortehoe - via Morte Point - Woolacombe - four hours but well worth it. Great venue, hosts, spot. ENJOY!

Well, without a doubt, this has been the loveliest week of 2020 so far - a wonderful holiday in this gorgeous setting after months of lockdown, so welcome and needed! We have loved staying in Summercombe - a beautiful and comfortable base for our North Devon break. Thankfully, the weather has been mostly kind to us (and we chose a good week, escaping the heatwave back at home!), so we spent several days at Woolacombe beach (large so good for social distancing) and also enjoyed fish and chips and watching people crab at Combe Martin. The kids had fun at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, and we had a lovely walk along the river to the pebbly beach at Heddon Valley. We'd love to stay longer. Thank you for the very-welcome pack, and the fresh eggs a lovely surprise! Summercombe has been one of the nicest holiday homes we've stayed in, and we'll be back!

Thank you for a great holiday. We loved the cottage which has been renovated to a very high standard and as we run a holiday cottage ourselves, we know how much hard work is involved! We loved the area and had a great walk down to Ilfracombe on the bridleway, supper in the Thatched Inn and walked (much slower...) back up the hill. Other highlights were the Marwood Hill Gardens and coastal walks. Overall, a great stay!
