Sitting in an elevated position half a mile from the centre of Ilfracombe and boasting amazing views is Farthings Nest – a fantastic retreat for couples wanting to explore North Devon. Beautifully renovated, this cosy ground floor apartment has a patio directly outside the living room which overlooks the garden, across the town and toward the Torrs which has a zig-zag walk to the top of the hills carved into the cliff face by the Victorians. Inside the apartment, the spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner has a couple of large, comfy settees (one of which is a sofabed for alternative sleeping arrangements), a 40" flat screen Smart WiFi TV with Blue- ray disc player, a dining table for four people and a modern, well-equipped kitchen. A useful storage cupboard houses the washing machine and tumble dryer. A spacious bedroom and huge bathroom with a shower over the bath complete the accommodation. Outside, there is a patio directly outside the living room with furniture, with the rest of the garden being shared with The Farthings upstairs and the apartments can be rented with The Farthings (FARTHI) for larger groups of 10 people. Farthings Nest is approx. half a mile up the hill from Ilfracombe's main High Street. The town has a delightful mix of Victorian and Regency architecture, pretty harbour, independent shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. The harbour, along with Damien Hirst’s bronze statue Verity and the Tunnels Beaches, is well worth seeing along with a visit to the award-winning Ilfracombe Aquarium, fascinating Ilfracombe Museum, Larkstone Leisure Park, Hele Cornmill and Chambercombe Manor - one of Britain's most haunted houses.

We have just returned from a fabulous week at Farthing's Nest in Ilfracombe. The annexe was spacious, contemporary, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Located close to the town, we had sea views from our front windows. Indeed, it was perfect. We enjoyed exploring the area and did plenty of walking along the spectacular coastline. The weather was excellent for October and we also managed a boat trip and visits to nearby Lynton and Lynmouth. We have stayed in many holiday lets across the UK and this one has to be up there in our top 5 favourites. The owner introduced herself and was very helpful, but we had total privacy in our lovely accommodation next door. We will certainly be returning in the future. I must also applaud Marsdens for keeping us well informed about the Covid situation. We had no issue staying at this spotless property during this pandemic.
We have just had a week's holiday at Farthings Nest, Ilfracombe. This was our second visit. It is a lovely ground floor apartment, very clean, comfortable warm and cosy with all modern facilities. We look forward to staying again in the future.
We stayed at Farthings Nest last week for the 6th time. It is a lovely home from home and we hope to return next year. The cottage is spotless and quiet the owners are such lovely people. I need to say thankyou to them for their support each year we have holiday there.
We spent a delightful week at the Farthings Nest in September, it was an ideal place to have a base to explore the north Devon coast. The accommodation was perfect in every way, very clean and well equipped with a spacious layout. The private patio area was a real bonus especially as we had such good weather, and we spent every evening with a glass of wine, watching the sun go down over the sea. Steph and Mick were excellent hosts, whilst we had our privacy, they made a point of welcoming us when we arrived and were attentive throughout our stay. This is definitely a place which we would return to.
We were delighted with this holiday residence overlooking Ilfracombe. The rooms were clean and very tastefully appointed. Scones, jam and cream were left for us which was a very thoughtful, personal touch that tasted delicious! The owners made a point of introducing themselves and seeing to any minor issues/questions that cropped up. We'd definitely like to book again in the future.
Owners were extremely helpful and friendly. Everything was excellent and I would highly recommend this property.
Thank you so much for the warm welcome to our honeymoon! The apartment was everything we could have wished for - and more besides. Introducing Paul to North Devon was made so much easier by yourselves and this wonderful place. We shall return...
Enjoyed our week here, very comfortable and well equipped apartment. Thank you for the cream tea and flowers. Lovely views from the apartment, it would be nice to stay here when we could sit in the garden and enjoy the scenery. I didn't realise North Devon was so hilly.
Very comfortable home from home property
we love this cottage next year will be 6th time at Farthings nest. I need to sort out travelling as the busses are a struggle .perhaps a train x The owners are very nice very kind also.
Back again after a manic year, busy holiday season also Church life. I love it here, 5th year but still want to come back.
The property was excellent, well equipped and clean. The views over Ilfracombe and the sea were enjoyed while having a drink in the garden.
Lovely Self Catering accommodation. One of the best we have stayed in.
Really enjoyed our week here. Scenery beautiful, made even more so by the excellent weather. One of the best holiday homes we have stayed in, clean and tidy and well equipped. Thanks for the welcome pack, the scones and clotted cream went down very well. Enjoyed plenty of walks - The Torrs, Hillsborough to Hele Bay and Capstone Hill. Views of Ilfracombe wonderful. Further afield, Valley of Rocks, Saunton Sands well worth it. Only sorry we couldn't stay longer. Thanks to Steph and Mick for being so welcoming.
Great two weeks. One of the best places to stay. Thank you for the Cream Tea and flowers. Very enjoyable walks at Mortehoe, Lee Bay and Baggy Point. Otter cycle hire very good value for Tarka Trail. Thank you Steph and Mick for being very welcoming. Hope to see you next year.
