Paramount Bolt Hole is a lower ground floor, one bedroomed apartment of a large, newly renovated Georgian terrace house. One of only 8, five storey dwellings these spacious and historic buildings create a magnificent backdrop to the delightful communal front garden, sheltered by an array of trees with large, well-attended lawn and bench seating.
The owners of Paramount Bolt Hole have given a great deal of thought in its renovation and with imagination and clever design they have brought the apartment back to life in a sympathetic and creative way. Using reclaimed and renovated fixtures and fittings they have also been able to give new life to previously loved items which have been individually chosen to create the desired effect. The house is approached via a circular road which wraps around the lawn. Guests are welcome to pull up outside the property to unload/load only. There is no parking at the front of the house, but there is a private parking space provided at the rear on request – please provide car registration at time of booking. Original stone steps lead down to the entrance with an internal slate floor porch providing storage for outdoor footwear and coats. A secondary internal door leads into the spacious, open plan living/kitchen/ dining area. The reclaimed flooring has local history and sets the room off well creating a light and warm effect. A colourful rug gives a cosy feel within the seating area. Despite being on the lower ground, there is plenty of natural light with a large window to the front of the property and French doors to the rear. A glass panelled door from the living area into the middle hallway also allows light to flood through. The dining table and chairs are conveniently placed beside the window which also has a wooden window seat. A large leather sofa and two chairs, including a rocker, are strategically placed towards the ornamental fireplace with feature stove and TV with additional Firestick and DVD. There is also a well-stocked bookcase with many local historical and information books. Local prints adorn the walls and are available to purchase from the artist. The new handmade kitchen provides storage and worktop space with an AGA Companion electric cooker.
A handy cupboard within the hallway dividing the living area and bedroom contains the washing machine and storage for ironing board and hoover etc. The hallway also leads to the bedroom which is a good size providing a super king bed (with zip ‘n’ link facility to twin on request at time of booking). Here the unusual and clever design continues with needlepoint headboard, reclaimed bedside tables and cupboard space. French doors open from the bedroom to allow in fresh air, but the owners have asked that the outside space is not used as this leads to their own private garden. Next door to the bedroom is a newly fitted tiled shower room with large walk-in shower, WC and basin.
The owners have added unusual and interesting items throughout the apartment including needlepoint cushions, lamps and pictures. This individual property may give inspiration to some guests showing what can be achieved by reclaiming and restoring older style, previously loved items.
Paramount Bolt Hole provides a good base from which to explore this beautiful part of North Devon. Boat trips along the coast or to the famous Puffin Island of Lundy can be enjoyed from the Harbour as well as fishing and seal watching trips. Coastal walks offer breath-taking views or if golf is your ‘thing’ enjoy a walk and the views whilst playing 18 holes at the local Golf Club. Ilfracombe also has an Aquarium, famous tunnel beaches, cinema, theatre and swimming pool! A scenic 15 minutes’ drive takes you to the magnificent 3 mile sandy/surfing beach at Woolacombe or the vast expanse of Exmoor National Park with its array of flora and fauna can be accessed in little over half an hour.

Helen and Ian have restored this to a very high quality and with great consideration for guests and visitors. It is a marvelous oasis of peace and calm in a bust North Devon town. Their effort and hospitable welcome is much appreciated.
