Description
EMILYS
Emilys Cottage is a delightful thatched property sleeping four people in the charming waterside hamlet of Bucks Mills. This semi-detached cottage oozes character with wooden floors, deep window sills, latched doors and small paned windows and is the perfect place to get away from all the modern trappings of everyday life. Tiered lawns and wild flowers cascade down the garden and a gentle walk takes you down to the secluded rocky cove. The front door is reached via a few steps and opens into the lounge/diner which has large feature fireplace, a wooden floor, dining table and plenty of comfortable seats. The kitchen, at the back of the cottage, has pine kitchen units and a free-standing fridge/freezer. A handy utility room, two steps up from the kitchen, houses the washing machine and tumble dryer. Upstairs the bedrooms have countryside views, pine furniture, character sloping ceilings and deep window reveals. The spacious bathroom has recently been refurbished and has a mixer handset shower over the bath. Outside, the garden is on many levels with lawns, wild flowers and outside seating. Please note it is not suitable for children under 5years. A couple of minutes’ downhill walk takes you to the rocky cove which even in the summer is beautifully quiet. Its historic background dates back to the Spanish Armada when the survivors of a Spanish Galleon took refuge and settled here. It is said that local women married the survivors of the shipwreck, forming a tight community and living in natural isolation. As you wind your way down the steep valley, that leads to this quiet, undisturbed village, you are enveloped by lush, green woodlands which create a canopy of protection. Sometimes, the sunlight manages to pierce through and create a magical beam of light, which shines brightly in your path. This spectacular woodland belongs to the National Woodland Trust and there are a host of pathways and walks to explore. Access to Bucks Mills is off the main Atlantic Highway, with convenient corner shop and post office situated at the top of the mile long hill. There are many coves and surfing beaches within easy driving distance. The Merry Harriers Nursey in nearby Woolsery provides delightful refreshments whilst the larger towns of Westward Ho! and Bideford offer a further choice of shops, pubs and restaurants.
