Description
The Wellies is a delightful character fishermans cottage nestling in one of the oldest streets of the picturesque fishing village of Appledore. Surrounded by colour washed cottages and with no vehicular access, this part of the village has great charm with character pubs serving excellent food, art galleries, restaurants, chandlers and interesting shops all within the surrounding narrow lanes. Less than a hundred yards from the waterfront the cottage retains much of its original character and is very comfortably furnished throughout with gas central heating and two multi fuel stoves making it a cosy base for all seasons. Three attractive bedrooms reached by two steep staircases with hand rails and some low headroom - spacious double with TV and bunk bedded room on the first floor and a further double with velux cabrio window (opens into a small balcony area) offering fantastic views across the estuary and towards the Torridge Bridge is on the second floor, the stairs to this room are narrow and steep, with low head room. Spacious shower room with wc is also on the first floor. Cosy beamed living room with woodburner in feature fireplace, TV and DVD player. Separate dining room with further multi fuel stove, table seating 6 and two arm chairs. Steps up to conservatory style kitchen which is well equipped and has doors to the fully enclosed walled patio with garden furniture. Parking available on the quay and in public car park closeby. This 'little white village' is steeped in maritime history, with fishing boats still regularly unloading their catch, and fishing trips frequently available on the quay. Seats along the quayside offer an opportunity to relax and view the activities whilst taking in the beautiful estuary views towards Instow. A regular ferry service from Appledore across the estuary to the beach and watersports centre of Instow is available in season and the historic Elizabethan port of Bideford and surfing beach of Westward Ho! are both within a 10 minute drive.
