Description
Tucked away in one of the oldest streets in the quaint fishing village of Appledore, Cockle Cottage is a deceptively spacious three storey cottage. Having been tastefully and sympathetically restored the property accommodates up to six people and 2 dogs. Surrounded by similar cottages in narrow lanes, access is by foot only although restricted parking is available along the quay and in public carparks close by.
Great thought has been given in furnishing the property with light, bright décor and complimenting accessories enhancing the nautical theme which runs throughout. The spacious living room has a beamed ceiling, comfortable seating and woodburning stove set into a stone fireplace for cooler evenings. A door from the living room leads out to the fully enclosed garden. The kitchen is modern with high gloss grey units and is very well equipped for groups of 6. There is also a separate dining area where everyone can enjoy a meal together. On the first floor an extremely spacious family bathroom has a shower over the bath, wash basin and WC. A double bedroom with feature fireplace is also on this floor. Two further bedrooms – both twins – are up a low curved staircase (restricted height) and benefit from sea glimpses. Outside, there is an enclosed walled courtyard with potted plants and patio furniture.
Cockle Cottage is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the quayside along the quaint, narrow streets where many of the fishermen’s cottages date back to the Elizabethan era. The quayside has a small but interesting range of pubs, restaurants, shops and galleries. During the summer a ferry takes passengers across the estuary to the pretty little village of Instow, with its sheltered stretch of sandy beach and family friendly eateries. In addition, the Blue Flag surfing beach of Westward Ho!, indoor pool at Northam and the Royal North Devon Golf Club are all just a short drive away.
