The village is also the chosen home of the Exmoor National Park Authority headquarters and visitor centre and offers an ideal base from which to roam the splendour of the region by foot, horseback (riding stables nearby) or car. Just over five miles from the glorious Wimbleball Lake, popular with anglers and watersports enthusiasts alike with tuition and hire available for sailing, windsurfing, rowing and kayaking. The sandy beach at Minehead and breathtaking coastline between Porlock and Lynmouth are also within a 30 minute, very scenic drive across the moor.
